Product information
A puttee or Winningas/Leg wrap/Calf wrap is a long, rectangular strip of cloth wrapped in a spiral around the leg from ankle to knee. In the early Middle Ages, it was an essential part of men’s clothing among Vikings, Slavs, and other peoples. Puttees protected the legs from cold, moisture, and abrasion, while also complementing the outfit and sometimes emphasizing social status. They were often worn with loose baggy trousers to secure them at the shins and create a more voluminous look.
These puttees are made of thick, high-quality wool fabric with a distinctive large herringbone twill weave. The ends are neatly finished in a triangular shape, which makes them easier to wrap and fasten. Additional bronze or silver-plated hooks are available to complete the set.
Today, reenactors and history enthusiasts value them for their practicality and authenticity:
- Perfect for festivals, LARPs, and historical events.
- Can also be worn as a warm, unique everyday accessory.
- One size fits all, making them a perfect gift.
The product is machine-sewn in our workshop in Otwock, Poland. Each piece is made to order. The offer includes one pair.
